To mark Propose Day, which falls on June 7 each year, the online streaming service ABEMA has selected three anime titles with memorable proposal scenes for fans to watch: The Quintessential Quintuplets, Sword Art Online and SPY×FAMILY.
The Quintessential Quintuplets
The Quintessential Quintuplets is adapted from the romantic comedy manga by Negi Haruba, which was serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine. The story follows Fūtarō Uesugi, a high school student who takes a tutoring job for the five Nakano quintuplet sisters and gradually builds relationships with each of them.
Amid the tangled romance surrounding the five sisters, the scene in which Fūtarō openly shares his feelings and proposes to the person he loves became one of the most talked-about moments among fans. The relationship built up across the story finally reaches that moment, making it deeply moving for many viewers.
Sword Art Online
Sword Art Online, or SAO, is based on the novel series by Reki Kawahara published under the Dengeki Bunko label. It follows Kirito, a boy trapped in a next-generation VRMMORPG who must struggle to escape a deadly game.
Beyond its intense action, the relationship between Kirito and Asuna, which grows in the midst of dangerous battles, is a central part of the series. In particular, the proposal scene in Episode 10, where Kirito confesses his feelings to Asuna, is often praised as one of the franchise’s all-time best moments.
SPY×FAMILY
SPY×FAMILY is a work by Tatsuya Endo that is still serialized in Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+. The story centers on a top spy codenamed Twilight, who disguises himself as Loid Forger for a secret mission and forms a makeshift family with Anya, a girl who can read minds, and Yor, a professional assassin.
The proposal scene in Episode 2, which marks the beginning of Loid and Yor becoming “husband and wife,” is another highlight viewers remember well. Loid uses the pin from a hand grenade as a ring for Yor, creating a scene that is both shocking and romantic.
Available on ABEMA
All three titles can be watched on ABEMA. Anyone looking for anime with heartfelt romance scenes during Propose Day should not miss these three works.
