Theme Song

The anime’s theme song is “Taga Tame ni” (For Whom), performed by Kyōko of the rock band Barbee Boys. The song’s origins trace back to the 1979 Cyborg 009 TV anime, where it was sung by Ken Narita and Koorogi ’73, with lyrics written by Shotaro Ishinomori (Shōtarō Ishinomori), the creator of the original work.

About Cyborg 009

The original Cyborg 009 manga by Ishinomori began serialization in Shōnengahōsha’s Weekly King magazine in July 1964. It follows a group of cyborgs opposing the secret international organization Black Ghost, which seeks to keep the world in a perpetual state of war. Black Ghost kidnaps men and women and transforms them against their will into combat cyborgs, but the nine subjects rebel and fight back against the organization.

The manga was adapted into TV anime series in 1968, 1979, and 2001, as well as theatrical films in 1966, 1967, and 1980. More recent adaptations include the films 009 Re:Cyborg (2012) and Cyborg 009 Call of Justice (2016), along with an OVA crossover with Devilman in 2015.

Additional manga continuations include Cyborg 009 Bgooparts Delete by Tsuguo Okazaki, which ran from 2019 to September 2022, and most recently in April 2024, Masaki Tsuji and Masato Hayase launched the new manga Cyborg 009 Taiheiyo no Borei (Cyborg 009: Ghost of the Pacific).

The anime Cyborg 009: Nemesis is scheduled to stream this summer.
