A book fair tied to the first-ever source novel exhibition of Kusuriya no Hitorigoto (薬屋のひとりごと) — officially titled 「小説『薬屋のひとりごと』原作展 毒と薬、科学とミステリー」 (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto Novel Source Exhibition: Poisons & Medicine, Science & Mystery) — is currently running at 47 bookstores across Tokyo and the surrounding area. Customers who purchase a novel volume will receive a special premium: a “scratch card” and an exhibition discount pass.
About Kusuriya no Hitorigoto
Kusuriya no Hitorigoto is a highly popular court mystery novel series following the adventures of Maomao, a young woman working as a “medicine taster” in the imperial palace, as she untangles one mystery after another. The series has sold over 45 million copies worldwide.
The TV anime Season 1 aired from October 2023 to March 2024, and Season 2 aired from January to July 2025 — both seasons charting continuously on streaming platforms. In addition, TV anime Season 3 is scheduled for October 2026, and an anime film is set for December 2026.
First-Ever Novel Source Exhibition
The exhibition is being held to celebrate the 11th anniversary of the novel’s publication. It presents the world of author Hiwa Natsu‘s work alongside the beautiful illustrations of Minoji Kurata, framed through the lens of “poisons and medicine, science and mystery” — including exclusive scenes and backstory that have never been revealed before, making it an immersive upgrade from reading to truly experiencing the world of Kusuriya no Hitorigoto.
After the Tokyo venue, the exhibition will move to Yokohama, opening from June 5, 2026.
Book Fair and Premiums Details
The book fair runs from May 22, 2026 onwards (end dates may vary by store). Featured items include novel volumes 1–16; every purchase of 1 volume entitles the buyer to the following gifts:
- Kusuriya no Hitorigoto scratch card — illustration card using source novel artwork, 2 designs: Maomao and Jinshi (one card per volume purchased)
- ¥300 exhibition discount pass — valid for walk-in admission or purchasing ¥3,000 or more of exhibition merchandise (one pass per person per visit; cannot be combined with advance tickets)
Premiums are available in limited quantities and will end when supplies run out at each store.
