The original short anime 「Pan no Akachan」 (Bread Baby), created by CHOCOLATE Inc., is set to make the leap to a full TV series format. It will begin airing in the program 「土曜はナニする!?」 on Kansai TV–Fuji TV every Saturday from July 4, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. A first PV has also been released for fans to enjoy.
From YouTube to Television
「Pan no Akachan」 is an original adventure story about “bread ghosts” — small, bread-like spirits. It first appeared as CG animation on YouTube and social media in November 2024. For the upcoming TV series, production collaboration comes from Dwarf Studio (AOI Pro.), and the most notable change is the shift in production technique from CG to stop-motion animation (コマ撮り), giving the bread-baby characters even more dimension and charm. Every episode features an entirely original story.
Director Shares His Thoughts
Ijikawa Haruka, who handles planning, script, and direction for both the original and the new series, commented:
“The 「Pan no Akachan」 that debuted two years ago is about to begin a new chapter! The bakery has grown, the kitchen has gotten bigger, and the main character this time is a newly born ‘cream bread baby.’ The characters have become more distinct, and their designs have evolved too (some even have hair…?). Thanks to Dwarf Studio’s involvement, we were able to shoot stop-motion, which has been incredibly well-received. Everyone on the modeling and animation team breathed a wonderful life into these bread babies. Shooting took over three months and was an extremely rich experience. I hope everyone enjoys the story of this little, fearless bread baby.”
Harada Shuhei from Dwarf Studio added that the team poured their expertise into capturing the “squishy-stretchy” sensation of bread dough through the constraints of stop-motion — quite different from typical fabric-based puppet work. Additionally, Yamazato Rieta, host of 「土曜はナニする!?」 from Nankai Candies, expressed excitement at being a “guest co-star” alongside the adorable bread babies in the show.
