The Spring 2026 anime season is in full swing, and beyond the gripping storylines, the opening (OP) songs that capture each show’s world in roughly ninety seconds are another highlight not to be missed. The website Anime! Anime! conducted a poll titled “Which Spring 2026 Anime OP Do You Like?” from May 9–12, 2026, with a total of 89 respondents. The male-to-female ratio was nearly even, with the under-19 age group accounting for about 35% and the 30s age group making up about 30%.
The Most Talked-About OPs
Among the songs that received warm praise was the opening of 「お隣の天使様にいつの間にか駄目人間にされていた件2」 (Otonari no Tenshi-sama ni Itsunomanika Dame Ningen ni Sareteita Ken 2), which uses the song “Kimi wa Koibito” performed by Oishi Masayoshi. Fans commented, “Oishi’s voice, which has been singing since the first season, gives a warm and nostalgic feeling,” and “The lyrics perfectly convey Shu’s emotions as he begins to realize his own feelings — they even include the word ‘angel,’ which is a key keyword of the series.”
For 「黄泉のツガイ」 (Yomi no Tsugai), the opening is “Tobu Toki” by Vaundy. Readers said, “Beyond the powerful and firm vocals, the lyrics that seem to affirm human fragility create a strong sense of empathy,” and “The hook during the chorus with the blue sky backdrop is incredibly fun.”
International Artists Also Make a Strong Showing
「キルアオ」 (Kill Blue) uses “ATTITUDE” by the acclaimed K-POP girl group aespa. Fans said, “The fresh style and catchy hook make it enjoyable even for people who don’t usually follow K-POP — the psychedelic animation in the OP is so beautiful you want to watch it again and again.”
「NEEDY GIRL OVERDOSE」 comes paired with “INTERNET ANGEL” by Aiobahn +81, which fans called “the ultimate track that perfectly captures the denpa song vibe, while opening up new territory and immersing you completely in the world of the show.”
Romance, Comedy, and Action Are All Well-Represented
In the heartwarming romance category, 「クラス2番目に可愛い女の子と友だちになった」 uses “Submarine Youth” by reGretGirl. Fans praised it, saying “The gentle melody and lyrics that evoke a youthful atmosphere perfectly mirror how the protagonist begins to notice his own feelings.”
「愛しているゲームを終わらせたい」 comes with “Kimi no Sei de Aishiteru” by CHiCO with HoneyWorks. A reader noted, “The lyrics hit straight at the story of two people who haven’t yet opened their hearts — the OP animation also conveys the relationship that is still so endearing.”
On the action side, 「杖と剣のウィストリア Season 2」 (Wistoria: Wand and Sword Season 2) uses “BELIEVERS” by ASH DA HERO. Fans said, “The OP starts with Will and Elfaria playing in the forest as children, then gradually shows their battles and forward march even through hardship — it really brings to mind looking back at the past while moving forward.”
「ニワトリ・ファイター」 (Niwatori Fighter) uses “What’s a Hero?” by DARUMA Rollin’. Even the chickens dancing in the opening drew praise: “It’s so energetic, and the part where they suddenly show off gorgeous moves is adorable.”
Long-Running Series and Final Seasons Also Draw Attention
「勇者のクズ」 (Yuusha no Kuzu)‘s second cour uses “Revive” by ClariS. Fans were pleasantly surprised: “You’d normally think of ClariS as having a pure sound, but this time it’s a rock song with a completely different speed and intensity.”
For 「僕のヒーローアカデミア」 (Boku no Hero Academia) in the No. 170+1 arc, which is the FINAL SEASON, the song is “THE REVO” by Pornograffitti. Fans said, “Seeing Deku running at full speed, together with the flashback to the paths he and his friends walked in the Class A room, deeply resonates with the hero’s journey” — noting that this story takes place eight years after the finale.
