History of Cyborg 009

The original Cyborg 009 manga first began serialization in Shonengahosha’s Weekly King magazine in July 1964. It has been adapted into television anime three times, in 1968, 1979, and 2001, as well as films in 1966, 1967, and 1980. Later works include the films 009 Re:Cyborg (2012) and Cyborg 009 Call of Justice (2016), along with a 2015 crossover OVA with Devilman.

Most recently, in April 2024, scriptwriter Masaki Tsuji and artist Masato Hayase launched a new manga titled Cyborg 009 Taiheiyo no Borei (Cyborg 009: Ghost of the Pacific), continuing Ishinomori’s universe once again.
