The 30th Fantasia International Film Festival will be held in Montreal, Canada, from July 16 to August 2. This year’s lineup includes several notable works selected for screening at the festival.

Cherry and Virgin, an original film by director Masanao Kawajiri, was first announced in 2021 and was originally scheduled to open in 2022. Its release has now been delayed to 2027.
Sekiro: No Defeat — Anime Based on Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
The new anime Sekiro: No Defeat, adapted from FromSoftware’s video game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, will screen in Japanese theaters for three weeks starting September 4. Internationally, Crunchyroll will stream the anime exclusively in 2026 worldwide, excluding Japan, China, Korea, Russia, and Belarus. The anime was also selected for an out-of-competition screening at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June.
Wind Breaker — Live-Action Film Based on the Popular Manga
The live-action film adapted from Satoru Nii’s manga Wind Breaker has already opened in Japan on December 5.
The Origin of Ultraman — Documentary Celebrating Ultraman’s 60th Anniversary
The documentary The Origin of Ultraman will open in Japan on July 3. Created to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Ultraman franchise, the film explores the behind-the-scenes production of Ultraman, featuring rare footage from the set of the original Ultraman series as well as archival footage of Eiji Tsuburaya directing the crew during that era.
