Magic Knight Rayearth Synopsis

Magic Knight Rayearth follows three middle school girls, Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu, who are taken by magic to the fantasy world of Cephiro during a field trip to Tokyo Tower. There, the mage Clef tells them that the world is collapsing because the priest Zagato has kidnapped Princess Emeraude, whose prayers support the entire world. The three must receive the power of the Magic Knights and fight together to save Cephiro.

History of Magic Knight Rayearth

CLAMP serialized the Magic Knight Rayearth manga in Kodansha’s Nakayoshi magazine from 1993 to 1996, concluding in six volumes. It was later adapted into two TV anime series. The first aired from October 1994 to March 1995, and the second, Magic Knight Rayearth 2, aired from April to November 1995. A three-episode OVA titled Rayearth, presenting an alternate story, followed in 1997.

In the United States, Media Blasters previously released the TV anime on VHS and DVD. Discotek Media later licensed the series in 2014 and released complete Blu-ray/DVD sets in 2017.
