On June 4, publisher Iwanami Shoten officially released “Hayao Miyazaki Image Board Collection 6: Whisper of the Heart / On Your Mark”.
About This Art Book Series
The “Hayao Miyazaki Image Board Collection” series is an art book project in which Studio Ghibli collects image boards, storyboards, and previously unpublished sketches by Hayao Miyazaki as comprehensively as possible. Volume 6 focuses on two works that have remained popular since their 1995 releases.
Contents of the Volume
Whisper of the Heart
The Whisper of the Heart section collects 21 image boards and storyboards by Miyazaki, focusing on scenes from the story-within-the-story written by protagonist Shizuku Tsukishima, titled “The Story the Baron Gave Me.”
On Your Mark
The On Your Mark section, covering the animated short created as a music video for a song by CHAGE and ASKA, includes 157 images that reflect the creative experimentation of that era.
Special Interview and Next Volume
The end of the book also includes an interview with producer Toshio Suzuki, who discusses the production background of that period in detail.
For fans waiting for the next volume, Studio Ghibli has announced that “Hayao Miyazaki Image Board Collection 7: Princess Mononoke” is scheduled for release this December.
