May 17 of every year is designated as “Bonobono Day” (ぼのぼのの日), and this year the date carries special significance as it marks the 40th anniversary of the manga 「ぼのぼの」 (Bonobono) by Igarashi Mikio, as well as the 10th anniversary of its television anime adaptation — both milestones celebrated simultaneously.
The Anniversary Website Is Now Open
The official anniversary website 「ぼのぼのの40年のこと。」 (Bonobono and Its 40 Years) launched on May 17. The site features two main sections: a “Timeline of 40 Years of the Bonobono Manga” presenting artwork by Igarashi with an illustrated retrospective, and a “Sugorokugu: 10 Years of the Bonobono Anime” compiling the decade of the anime into a playable board-game sugoroku format.
The site also features congratulatory messages from over 100 individuals who have been involved with Bonobono over the years, including voice actors, staff, music artists, directors, manga artists, editorial staff, assistants, and even members of Igarashi’s own family.
Free Streaming of All 500 Episodes
Starting at 00:00 on May 17, all 500 episodes of the anime — covering the full 10 years of broadcast — are being made available to watch for free on FOD, TVer, and YouTube, with 10 episodes released each week over 50 consecutive weeks.
A 6-Hour Special on Animax
The anime-dedicated channel Animax is airing a special program titled 「『ぼのぼの』ざんまい6じかん ~連載40周年×アニメ10周年スペシャル~」 on May 17 from 11:00–17:00, with Bonobono (voiced by Yukimiya Fukuko) serving as host.
The broadcast schedule is as follows:

- 11:30–14:00 — Handpicked episodes from the Bonobono anime

During the “behind-the-scenes never-before-seen” segment, the program will follow Igarashi as he gives an interview at the “Bonobono-kan” (ぼのぼの館) in Kami Town, Miyagi Prefecture — his hometown.

Beyond the anniversary events, manga volume 50 of 「ぼのぼの」 will go on sale on July 16. This volume focuses on a competition among the forest animals coming together with mutual determination, along with many other stories.
