Twin Engine has released a special trailer for Gekijōban Mononoke Dai-San-Shō: Hebigami (Mononoke the Movie: Chapter 3: Snake God), the third and final installment of the Mononoke film trilogy. The trailer compiles scenes from the first two chapters while previewing new footage from the third chapter, brimming with the eerie atmosphere that defines the franchise.
Story Synopsis
Following two major incidents within the inner chambers of the shogunate — the confrontation with Karakasa and the encounter with Fire Rat — peace appears to have returned at last. But the Medicine Seller (voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya) still senses something lurking in the shadows and cannot rest easy.
Meanwhile, Empress Consort Sajiko (voiced by Tanezaki Atsumi), the emperor’s consort (voiced by Irino Miyu), has finally given birth to a long-awaited heir. But the joy is short-lived — the consort falls gravely ill in her moment of happiness, and Sajiko, who had hoped to change her standing with the emperor by producing an heir, instead finds herself at the lowest point of her life. She is drawn into a terrifying scheme that threatens the stability of the entire Ooku. Her uncompensated grief and her rage with no outlet slowly transform into pure, seething vengeance.
Mizorogi Hokuto (voiced by Tsuda Kenjiro), the religious minister of “Omizu-sama” within the Ooku, surveys the events with cold, calculating eyes. At the same time, supernatural disasters keep recurring within the inner chambers — and just as a woman is about to be bitten, stung, and consumed to her death by something gigantic lurking beneath the floor, along with three gleaming triangular scales that fell — the Medicine Seller rushes to the scene and must face a monstrous Mononoke known as the Snake God. Though he can briefly hold it at bay with his tools, to permanently exorcise and destroy the Snake God he must uncover three things: its Form, its Truth, and its Regret. The answers to everything lie hidden within the events that unfolded 150 years ago in the dark history of the Ooku. What is the shocking truth that has never been revealed? And can the Medicine Seller survive the greatest crisis of his life?
