In recent years, the trend of adapting characters from various media into anime has grown noticeably. From mascots of companies and local organizations, to viral social-media content, VTubers, and even real-life performers — anime adaptations are helping these characters reach ever-wider audiences.
Among the most prominent recent examples are Sutopuri (すとぷり), the popular 2.5D idol group that just released their first animated film 劇場版すとぷり はじまりの物語～Strawberry School Festival!!!～, and Rilakkuma, the beloved character from San-X, who is set to receive a TV anime adaptation in April 2026. From Sanrio, the anime series My Melody & Kuromi — starring My Melody and Kuromi — is already streaming on Netflix.
With this trend in mind, the website Anime! Anime! is conducting a reader poll under the heading “Which character would you most like to see get an anime adaptation?” The poll is open-ended, allowing participants to enter the name of any character they want — no pre-set choices.
