Synopsis

The story takes place 15 years after a global catastrophe known as the “Second Impact.” A 14-year-old boy named Shinji Ikari is summoned by his father, Gendo Ikari, commander of the secret organization NERV in the new city of Tokyo-3. Shinji encounters giant mysterious beings known as “Angels” and is forced to pilot the combat machine Evangelion Unit-01. Amid hesitation and fear, he gradually grows through his meetings with Misato Katsuragi and Rei Ayanami.

A major highlight of this film is Operation Yashima, in which electricity from across Japan is gathered to attack an Angel. In the new theatrical version, the sequence is presented on a much larger and more spectacular scale than in the original TV series.
