Background and Significance
This new anime was produced to celebrate the franchise’s 40th anniversary. The staff have stated that this CG anime will follow the original manga more closely than ever before. The original manga ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from 1983 to 1988, while the first TV anime ran for 152 episodes from 1984 to 1988.
In addition, Hiroshi Kurao’s spinoff manga Hokuto no Ken: Ken’ō-gun Zako-tachi no Banka (Elegy for the Henchmen: Fist of the North Star) has also been adapted into a short anime, airing on AT-X and Tokyo MX since January 5. Its second part will begin airing this July.
