On June 5, Fuji TV held a launch event for its new webtoon label TOON8 at the broadcaster’s headquarters in Tokyo. Guests at the event included Ryusei Kainuma (BALLISTIK BOYZ from EXILE TRIBE), Zuma (Nijiiro Samurai), Ai Furihata, and producers from Foomoo.
What Is TOON8?
TOON8 is a webtoon label created by Fuji TV, combining the storytelling expertise of the television production industry with the planning and production capabilities of four partner companies in the webtoon field: Number Nine, Foomoo, LOCKER ROOM, and C-Route. All works will be released on the LINE Manga platform.
First Work, “報復の暗殺人形 (Assassin Doll),” Now Available
Alongside the label announcement, its first work, 「報復の暗殺人形」(Revenge Assassin Doll), produced by Foomoo, immediately began distribution on LINE Manga. A producer from Foomoo said the work has three key strengths: overwhelming catharsis, intense drama for the protagonist, and compelling eccentric characters.
The producer also emphasized that the team is focused on creating a sense of “catharsis” in every episode so readers feel satisfied even after a short reading time. The producer added, “Because this is a joint project with Fuji TV, it would be wonderful if we could expand it into an anime. We have prepared drama strong enough for that.”
Lineup Revealed Through the Fourth Work
TOON8 revealed four titles in its pipeline:
- Work 1: 「報復の暗殺人形」 – Produced by Foomoo (now available)
- Work 2: 「刀神ハイスクール」 – Produced by Number Nine
- Work 3: 「人質妻は離婚したい」 – Produced by LOCKER ROOM
- Work 4: 「対価を払ったら未来が変わりました」 – Produced by C-Route
Label Theme Song and Event Atmosphere
The event also announced that a new BALLISTIK BOYZ song, produced for the first time by Ryusei Kainuma, will be used as TOON8’s label song. Zuma wrote the lyrics, and he said this was the first time he had been approached to write lyrics, which made him feel very happy and much more confident.
One highlight of the event was a “Watch Party” where the guests and audience read 「報復の暗殺人形」 together. Ai Furihata opened the activity by adorably adapting a signature phrase from one of her past roles. As they read, the three guests reacted live with comments such as “So cool!” “He’s so handsome!” “The art is so detailed,” and “That’s brutal…” They also praised the full-color webtoon format as easy to read and similar to watching animated media, making it approachable even for people who do not often read manga.
