Manga artist Tsumikidou has launched a brand-new series titled Seiken-chan wa Kojiraseite iru (roughly, “The Holy Sword Has Issues”). Chapter 1 debuted in the July issue of Monthly Shonen Gangan, published by Square Enix and hitting newsstands on June 12.
Story
The series centers on Alba, a thoroughly lazy adventurer whose sole ambition is to amass enough wealth to spend the rest of his life doing absolutely nothing. In pursuit of that dream, he constantly chases down leads on valuable treasures.
One day, Alba hears a rumor about a holy sword and heads into the forest to track it down. Deep in the woods he stumbles upon a ruined church, where he discovers a massive greatsword bound in chains — and, inhabiting the blade, a beautiful girl spirit.
When Alba tries to form a contract with her, the spirit shoots back with a suspicious “You probably say that to every weapon you meet, don’t you…” — making things immediately complicated. The series follows the unlikely pairing of an unmotivated adventurer and a holy sword with serious trust issues, played for fantasy-comedy laughs.
