Captain Tsubasa, the football manga by Yoichi Takahashi, first appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) in March 1981 and marks its 45th anniversary in 2026. Over nearly half a century, the series has been widely credited with transforming football culture in Japan — from inspiring the formation of the J.League to fuelling the national team’s drive to reach its first FIFA World Cup.

The episode will feature Yoichi Takahashi revealing behind-the-scenes stories about the manga’s creation, alongside prominent figures from the football world discussing the series’ enormous influence.
