Kyoto’s Demachiza (出町座) cinema will hold a special retrospective series titled “Isao Takahata Director Special 2026” (高畑勲監督特集2026), presenting four feature films that legendary animation director Isao Takahata (高畑勲) made with Studio Ghibli. The event runs week by week from 31 July through 27 August 2026.

Takahata passed away in 2018, and the organizers have expressed a desire to “share his works with future generations.” The series is also a revival of a programme that originally launched in spring 2020 but was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.

• The Tale of The Princess Kaguya (かぐや姫の物語) — Friday, 21 August – Thursday, 27 August 2026

The four titles span Takahata’s entire Ghibli career, from his early work to his final film, offering both longtime fans and newcomers a rare chance to experience these classics on the big screen.
