The production team behind the Rent-A-Girlfriend (Kanojo, Okarishimasu) anime, based on the manga by Reiji Miyajima, announced on Saturday that the series has been greenlit for a sixth season. The new season will adapt the Cohabitation arc from the source manga.
To mark the occasion, character designer Kanna Hirayama shared a commemorative illustration celebrating the announcement.
Season 5 Wraps Up
The fifth season concluded on Wednesday on the DMM TV streaming service, with its 12th and final episode also airing on television on Friday. Both Season 4 and Season 5 covered the Hawaiians arc.
Season 4 had debuted last July on DMM TV and d Anime Store, wrapping up in September after 12 episodes. It was originally planned as a two-cour run with a break in between. The staff at TMS Entertainment carried over from Season 3, while Kazuomi Koga — director of the first two seasons — returned to the helm, replacing Season 3 director Shin’ya Une. Crunchyroll streamed both seasons as they aired.

Story Synopsis
Kinoshita Kazuya is a 20-year-old college student whose love life has hit rock bottom — dumped by his girlfriend after just one month together. In a fit of frustration, he turns to a rental girlfriend service and meets Mizuhara Chizuru, a beautiful young woman with long black hair and a warm smile. What starts as a simple transaction soon sparks something far more real, kicking off a reckless and heartfelt romantic comedy.
About the Manga
Miyajima launched the manga in Kodansha‘s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in July 2017. The 46th compiled volume shipped on June 17. Kodansha USA Publishing handles the English-language release. The franchise also inspired a live-action series that premiered in July 2022.
