The TV anime adaptation of Hime Kishi-sama no Himo (姫騎士様のヒモ) has been officially announced for a January 2027 broadcast. Alongside the premiere window, the production has unveiled a teaser visual, a teaser PV, and the first wave of cast and staff information.
From Award-Winning Novel to Anime
The original light novel is written by Shirogane Toru with illustrations by Mashima Saki, published under the Dengeki Bunko imprint (KADOKAWA). The first volume launched in February 2022 after the series claimed the top Grand Prize (大賞) at the 28th Dengeki Novel Prize, beating out 4,411 competing entries. The series has since surpassed 200,000 copies in circulation across print and digital formats. A manga adaptation (Part 1) launched in February 2023, with Part 2 beginning in 2025.
Story
Set in the labyrinth city known as “The Grey Neighbour” (灰色の隣人), the story follows Matthew, a former adventurer who lives as the kept man — or himo — of Alwin, princess of a fallen kingdom. Nicknamed “Wisecrack” for his sharp tongue, Matthew appears to be a worthless freeloader, but in the shadows he is willing to do whatever dirty work is necessary to protect Alwin. The series is described as an isekai noir.
Teaser Visual & PV
The teaser visual was drawn by character designer Ishii Hisao and depicts Matthew and Alwin bound together by a red cord — a visual metaphor for their fateful relationship. The teaser PV conveys the gritty atmosphere of the labyrinth city while highlighting the stark contrast between the laid-back Matthew and the earnest, proud Alwin. A poster giveaway campaign to celebrate the teaser visual release has also been announced.
Main Characters
- Matthew (voiced by Suwabe Junichi) — A former adventurer turned himo who lives off Alwin’s money. He is so poor in a fight that even women and children can best him, yet he never speaks of his past and is prepared to cross any line for Alwin’s sake.
- Alwin (voiced by Komatsu Mikako) — Princess of the monster-ravaged Kingdom of Mactaroad. She now leads the adventurer party Aegis (戦女神の盾) in search of the all-purpose material Star Life Crystal (星命結晶) to restore her homeland, and is revered as the “Crimson Princess Knight.” Despite her formidable combat ability, she somehow finds herself supporting Matthew as her himo.
