Aniplex has revealed a new promotional visual and announced a Winter 2026 broadcast window for “Wazamonogatari: Karen Ogre,” the upcoming episode of the MONOGATARI Series: OFF & MONSTER Season anime.
Core Staff Returns
Franchise stalwart Akiyuki Simbo returns as chief director, with Midori Yoshizawa directing the new episode at studio SHAFT. Fuyashi Tou is back to oversee series scripts alongside Simbo, and Akio Watanabe reprises his roles as character designer and chief animation director.
Anime Progress So Far
The MONOGATARI Series: OFF & MONSTER Season anime launched as an exclusive stream on ABEMA in Japan in July 2024, with its 14th episode arriving in October 2024. Crunchyroll has been simulcasting the series internationally.
The Monogatari Franchise
The franchise traces its roots to NisiOisin‘s novel series, which began with the two-volume Bakemonogatari in 2006 and received its first anime adaptation in 2009. The novels’ “final season” concluded with Zoku Owarimonogatari in September 2014, though it teased a “Monogatari Series, Next Season Tsugimonogatari.” The most recent novel, Tsugimonogatari, shipped in October 2025.
Off Season and Monster Season Novels
The four “Off Season” volumes — Orokamonogatari, Wazamonogatari, Nademonogatari, and Musubimonogatari — were released in October 2015, January 2016, July 2016, and January 2017, respectively. Each volume collects short stories set at various points throughout the series.
The “Monster Season” launched with Shinobumonogatari in July 2017, followed by Yoimonogatari, Amarimonogatari, Ōgimonogatari, and the two-volume Shinomonogatari, which shipped in August 2021. These novels continue the story into the characters’ college years.
