The production team behind the second television anime season of The Detective Is Already Dead (Tantei wa Mō, Shindeiru.), based on the light novel series by Nigojū and Umibōzu, released the anime’s second promotional video on Saturday, along with theme song artist announcements and updated character visuals.

Theme Songs and Artists

40mP is composing the anime’s score and has also composed, arranged, and written the lyrics for both theme songs. Kōme performs the opening theme “Kono Shinzō ni Hanabata wo” (A Bouquet for This Heart), while Kagura Nana returns to sing the ending theme “Hakuchumu” (Daydreams).

Manabu Kurihara returns to direct at studio ENGI, with Deko Akao once again handling series scripts and Yōsuke Itō returning as character designer.

Premiere and Background

The second season has been delayed to October, after Kadokawa had previously announced a July airdate. The season was first announced back in July 2022. The first season launched with a one-hour special in July 2021 and ran for 12 episodes; Funimation streamed it alongside an English dub.

Story

The series follows Kimihiko Kimizuka, a young man who always seems to find himself in trouble, as he becomes the assistant to Siesta, a globe-trotting detective. Together they tackle a string of mysteries — until Siesta mysteriously dies after years of adventure. Her legacy, however, continues to shape the lives of Kimihiko and those around her.

Source Material

Nigojū launched the light novel series under Kadokawa’s MF Bunko J imprint in November 2019, with illustrations by Umibōzu. The novel won the 15th MF Bunko J Newcomer Award in 2019, and the series reached its 13th volume in July 2025. Yen Press publishes the novels in English.

A spinoff novel, Charlotte wa Tada, Jiken o Tokitai. Tantei wa Mō, Shindeiru. Code:RED, written by Hoko Hinachi and Minori Chigusa with Nigojū as original work supervisor, launched in May 2024. Mugiko‘s manga adaptation ran in Kadokawa’s Monthly Comic Alive from May 2020 to October 2023, concluding with six compiled volumes.
