The production team behind Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia (Tenmaku no Jādūgar), the television anime adaptation of Tomato Soup‘s manga, has begun streaming a new promotional video for the series’ “Mongolia Arc” and announced three additional voice cast members.

Newly Announced Cast

  • Misaki Kuno as Sorghaghtani, the intelligent primary consort of the Fourth Prince
  • Ayaka Asai as Möge, the fourth consort of Mongol Emperor Ögedei
  • Mayumi Shintani as Kirgistani, the third consort of Mongol Emperor Ögedei

The staff also introduced the character Boraqchin, Ögedei’s first wife and Empress (the Great Khatun).

Story

Set in thirteenth-century Yeke Mongol Ulus — the greatest empire the world has ever known — the story follows Fatima, a woman from Persia whose mastery of medicine and science leads her to the Mongol palace in search of a stage worthy of her talents. There she comes under the wing of Töregene, the sixth wife of Ögedei, the second Great Khan — a formidable woman with complicated feelings about the empire’s future. Together, these two women become the axis around which palace politics, and ultimately the fate of the world, revolve.

SEKAI NO OWARI performs the opening theme “Stella,” while Queen Bee performs the ending theme “Hoshi” (Star).

Broadcast & Screenings

The anime premiered on July 4 at 11:00 p.m. JST on TV Asahi and 23 affiliated channels, as well as BS Asahi, with the first two episodes airing back-to-back as a one-hour special. Crunchyroll is streaming the series simulcast.

The world premiere screening of the first three episodes was held on June 13 at United Cinemas Aqua City Odaiba. The anime also screened in competition at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France in the TV Films category, and Anime Expo hosted the U.S. premiere on July 3.

About the Manga

Tomato Soup launched the manga on Akita Shoten’s Souffle website in September 2021. From March 2025, it began simultaneous serialization in Akita Shoten’s Mystery Bonita magazine. The manga went on hiatus last summer for the author’s maternity leave and returned on March 25. The sixth compiled volume is due out on July 15. Yen Press publishes the manga in English.

The series topped the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2023 rankings for female readers and ranked 11th in 2024. It received nominations for the Manga Taisho Awards in both 2023 and 2024, was nominated in the Best New Manga category at the second American Manga Awards, and most recently won the grand prize in the Comic division of the 55th Japan Cartoonists Association Awards.
