The production team behind the summer 2026 anime Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru II has released the synopsis and advance scene cuts for Episode 2, “The Country Bumpkin Watches Over Growth,” set to air on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
About the Series
Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru is based on the light novel series written by Sagasaki Shigeru with illustrations by Nabeshima Tetsuhiro, published under the SQEX Novel imprint by Square Enix. A manga adaptation by Sato Kazuki and two spin-off titles have helped push the franchise’s cumulative circulation past 10 million copies. The first season of the TV anime aired from April to June 2025 and became a global hit, reaching the Prime Video Top 10 in more than 45 countries and regions.
Season 2 Story
In Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru II, Beryl Gardenant — the swordsmanship instructor from the countryside — has settled into life in the capital as a special instructor for the knights’ order and guardian to a group of orphans. But peace eludes him. From a magic academy and the walls of his hometown to a frontier margraviate on the border and a foreign land rife with intrigue, Beryl must face new, unavoidable battles both as a swordsman and as a human being.
The series continues under director Kazumi Akio, with animation produced by Passione × Hayabusa Film, and Hirata Hiroaki reprising his role as Beryl Gardenant.
Episode 2 Synopsis — “The Country Bumpkin Watches Over Growth”
Taking on the role of a temporary lecturer, Beryl racks his brain over how to teach Fissel — who is poor at explaining things — the art of teaching itself.
Meanwhile, Mui is still struggling to open up to her classmates. However, during the lunch break, an exchange with Cindy hints at a change beginning to stir within her.
At a small party held afterward, Beryl looks on warmly as both Mui and Fissel show signs of growth. Then, something unexpected occurs at the magic academy…
