About the Film
Cho Kaguya-hime! is an original feature-length anime film set in a virtual space called 〈Tsukuyomi〉, following a group of girls whose bonds are forged through music and song. Blending VTuber/liver culture, live music performances, and social media into a single audio-visual experience, the film struck a chord with younger audiences and became a major cultural talking point.
The film began streaming on Netflix in January 2026 before opening in theaters on February 20, 2026. Though initially planned as a one-week limited run, seats sold out the moment reservations opened. The film ultimately drew 1.2 million admissions and surpassed ¥2.5 billion in box-office revenue, running continuously through June 18. A revival screening — including special formats — is also scheduled to begin on September 18, 2026.
