July is here, and with it comes the full heat of summer — a season that has a unique way of bringing certain anime back to mind. Images of summer vacation, the ocean, fireworks, and festivals have a way of intertwining with beloved series, leaving impressions that last for years.
To celebrate the season, anime news site Anime! Anime! ran its annual reader poll titled “What anime do you want to watch in summer?” for 2026. The survey was conducted from July 7 to July 13, gathering responses from 107 readers.
In terms of demographics, male respondents made up approximately 60% of participants, with female respondents at around 40%. By age group, readers aged 19 and under and those in their 20s each accounted for roughly 25% of votes, while respondents in their 30s formed the largest single group at approximately 30%.

The poll produced a top 5 ranking of summer anime, with reader comments highlighting themes of the ocean, youth, and summer break as key reasons for their choices. Notable titles in contention included Summer Wars (サマーウォーズ) and Grand Blue Dreaming (ぐらんぶる), both perennial fan favourites for the season — yet neither managed to claim the number one position.
