Pokémon: The Origin (ポケットモンスター ジ・オリジン), the original anime adaptation of the landmark games Pokémon Red & Green, is set to air on BS12 Twellv as part of the channel’s Sunday Anime Theatre (日曜アニメ劇場) slot on Sunday, 2 August 2026, at 19:00 JST. The broadcast is free-to-air and available nationwide across Japan.
Back to the Kanto Region
Pokémon: The Origin was created specifically to bring the world of Pokémon Red & Green — the very origin of the entire Pokémon series — to life in animated form for the first time. The special captures the thrill of Pokémon battles and the vivid expressions of its characters with energy and fidelity to the source material. It was designed to be enjoyed by all Pokémon fans, from children discovering the franchise for the first time to adults who grew up playing the original games.
The story follows Red, a young boy in the Kanto region who receives his first partner Pokémon, Charmander, from the renowned Pokémon researcher Professor Oak. Entrusted with the task of completing the Pokédex, Red and Charmander set off on a journey filled with new encounters and fierce battles.
Along the way, Red faces off against his rival Green, challenges Gym Leader Brock, and confronts the villainous Team Rocket as they attempt to seize the Pokémon Tower. The adventure builds toward a climactic showdown with Team Rocket’s boss Giovanni and an encounter with a mysterious, unknown Pokémon.
