The SAG-AFTRA performers’ union has listed the death of voice actor Michael Donovan in its summer 2026 magazine. The news was also shared publicly by fellow voice actor Ian James Corlett on his Instagram page.
Donovan was well known to anime fans for a number of prominent roles. He voiced Ryoga Hibiki in the original Ranma ½ anime, Cye Mouri in Ronin Warriors, Zouken Matou in Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel, Master Roshi in an older English dub of Dragon Ball, and Primus in Transformers: Cybertron.
Beyond anime, Donovan left a lasting mark on Western animation as well, taking on memorable roles including:
- Mike The TV and Phong in ReBoot
- Guile in Street Fighter
- Jack Hollister in Skysurfer Strike Force
- Wes Weasley in The Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog
- Eggplant Wizard in Captain N: The Game Master
- Sabertooth in X-Men: Evolution
Donovan’s career spanned decades of English-dubbed anime and Western animation, cementing his place as a beloved figure in the voice acting community during the golden era of 1990s and 2000s animation.
