About Natsume’s Book of Friends
Natsume’s Book of Friends (夏目友人帳) is an anime adaptation of the manga by Yuki Midorikawa, which is currently serialized in Monthly LaLa. The story follows Takashi Natsume, a lonely boy with the rare ability to see yokai. After inheriting the “Book of Friends” (友人帳) — a ledger of contracts his late grandmother Reiko made with various yokai — Natsume finds himself pursued by spirits eager to reclaim their names. Accompanying him on his journey is Nyanko-Sensei, a powerful yokai who self-appoints himself as Natsume’s bodyguard.
The TV anime first aired in 2008 and has since run for six seasons, with Hiroshi Kamiya voicing the protagonist Natsume throughout. A feature film presenting the franchise’s first full-length original story was released in September 2018, followed by a limited theatrical screening of two popular short episodes in January 2021. Most recently, the seventh season, Natsume’s Book of Friends Season 7 (夏目友人帳 漆), began airing on October 7, 2024.
