A special collaboration video has been released crossing over the film Oakstreet (オークストリートの異変) with the anime Girls & Panzer, giving fans of both titles a fun shared moment ahead of their respective upcoming releases.
Why These Two Properties?
Oakstreet centers on a quiet suburban neighborhood that is suddenly transported to an unknown location by a mysterious supernatural phenomenon. With water and electricity cut off and the town completely isolated, things take a terrifying turn when dinosaurs — long thought extinct — begin appearing and attacking residents. The Pratt family must fight to survive against all odds.
Girls & Panzer, meanwhile, follows ordinary high school girls who compete in tank warfare while living out their everyday school lives. The collaboration was conceived around the shared theme of “the gap between everyday life and sudden, extraordinary circumstances.”
What Happens in the Clip
The roughly three-minute video opens with a scene from Girls & Panzer, featuring Nishizumi Miho, Takebe Saori, and Akiyama Yukari — members of Ooarai Girls Academy’s Anglerfish Team — sitting down to watch Oakstreet in order to figure out how to handle a mysterious “anomaly” they themselves have encountered.
Saori reacts dramatically to the bizarre events unfolding on screen, while Miho, ever the composed tactician, quietly and methodically takes notes on how to deal with the dinosaurs — a dynamic that perfectly captures both characters’ personalities.
Release Dates
- Oakstreet opens in Japan on August 14. The film is produced by J.J. Abrams, directed by David Robert Mitchell, and stars Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor.
