ทีเซอร์วิชวลภาพยนตร์คนแสดง Leviathan แสดงภาพอิจิโนเซะและนิไคโดพร้อมMessages "อัตราการรอดชีวิต 1/38"

The sci-fi survival manga Leviathan (「リバイアサン」) by Kuroi Haku will be adapted into a live-action film, set to open nationwide in Japan through Toho theaters on February 11, 2027 (a national holiday). A teaser visual and trailer have already been released.

About the Story and Source Material

Leviathan is set aboard a drifting spaceship running out of oxygen. When the students on board discover that the life-support system can sustain only one person, all 38 of them are thrown into a deadly survival game. The manga originated when French publisher Ki-oon approached Kuroi Haku — who had gained attention through doujinshi work — to create the series. It ranked in the Top 10 best-selling new manga titles in France in 2022, began serialization on Shonen Jump+ in August of that year, and concluded in 2023.

Directors and Cast

The film is co-directed by Fujii Michihito, known for films such as Shotai and Ikusagami, and Shingu Ryohei, a prolific commercial and music video director making his feature-film debut.

  • Michieda Shunsuke — as Ichinose Kazuma
  • Deguchi Natsuki — as Nikaido Futaba

The trailer shows students attacking one another without mercy. Nikaido delivers the chilling line “From here on, this is true hell” with an ice-cold expression, while Ichinose is seen in tears. The key visual, dominated by the text “Survival Rate: 1/38,” features Ichinose with an unreadable expression alongside a boldly smiling Nikaido.

Comments from Cast and Crew

“I am deeply grateful that a manga I was quietly making years ago got the chance to be published in France, and has now been adapted into a live-action film. I believe the highly skilled professionals involved have created a wonderful piece of cinema. I hope as many people as possible get to experience this 1-in-38 death game set in space.” — Kuroi Haku (original author)

“This is a deeply human story — set in a space where death is always near and the only person you can trust is yourself. I still vividly remember the feeling of being pushed to my own limits every time I played Ichinose.” — Michieda Shunsuke (as Ichinose Kazuma)

“Nikaido Futaba is a calm, ruthless woman — a type of role I had never played before, which made me genuinely excited going into filming. Because of all the VFX work added in post, I couldn’t see the full picture while we were shooting, so I’m just as eager as the audience to see how it all turned out.” — Deguchi Natsuki (as Nikaido Futaba)

“Working with outstanding young actors and co-director Shingu, who I believe will revolutionize visual storytelling in Japanese cinema, was exhilarating — like the excitement of a school festival. I think we’ve made a film unlike anything audiences have seen before.” — Fujii Michihito (director)

“I never imagined a project of this scale would be my feature-film debut. Our shared goal was to create something that works on a global stage, and I believe the sweeping VFX will be one of the film’s major draws.” — Shingu Ryohei (director)

“What immense pride for Ki-oon! After being published in 10 languages across more than 34 countries, this French original creation continues its fabulous odyssey on the big screen.” — Ahmed Agne (Editorial Director, Ki-oon)
