The One Piece Day ’26 livestream event on Sunday dropped a major double announcement: two brand-new anime films are in the works. ONE PIECE FILM GOD VALLEY is set to open in summer 2027, while ONE PIECE FILM BAAD will follow in 2029.
God Valley Incident Gets the Big-Screen Treatment
ONE PIECE FILM GOD VALLEY will adapt the “God Valley Incident” from Eiichiro Oda’s original manga — a legendary clash that took place 38 years before the main story on the island of God Valley. The battle brought together the Rocks Pirates, the Roger Pirates, the Marines, and the World Nobles, among other factions, and has long been one of the most anticipated events in the franchise’s lore to receive a full adaptation.
A New Era for the One Piece Anime
The film announcements come as the One Piece anime undergoes a significant structural shift. In October 2025, Toei Animation and anime producer Ryūta Koike announced that the series would cap its annual output at a maximum of 26 episodes starting in 2026. After the Egghead arc concluded, the anime entered a three-month production hiatus from January through March 2026, then returned in April 2026 with the start of the new Elbaph arc.
Toei Animation stated that the revised schedule will allow episodes to “incorporate more content, tempo, and pacing of the manga while continuing to leverage the unique storytelling that is only possible with animation.” The series has aired nearly every week since its 1999 premiere, though its narrative pace has slowed considerably over the years.
Egghead Arc: A Timeline
The Egghead arc launched in January 2024. By mid-October 2024, the franchise announced a break for the arc to “recharge,” with Part 2 premiering on April 5, 2025 on Fuji TV — episode 1,123 overall — alongside a recap of Part 1. Episode 1,124 aired the following day, April 6, 2025, in a new timeslot at 11:15 p.m. JST.
During the Egghead hiatus, One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga aired in its place — a 21-episode condensed retelling of the Fish-Man Island arc featuring reshot scenes, retouched artwork, and various other improvements.
