Animate has announced a new merchandise collection inspired by the upcoming film Gekijouban Mahou Shoujo Madoka☆Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten, set to go on sale alongside a dedicated Balloon Fair on October 24, 2026.
About the Franchise
The original Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime aired in January 2011 as a 12-episode series, directed by Akiyuki Shinbo, written by Gen Urobuchi (Nitroplus), with original character designs by Ume Aoki and animation produced by Shaft. The series drew widespread attention for blending everyday school life with unpredictable, dark twists in a richly built magical-girl world.
Two compilation films — [前編] Hajimari no Monogatari and [後編] Eien no Monogatari — followed in 2012, with the original sequel [新編] Hangyaku no Monogatari releasing in 2013. The latest entry, Walpurgis no Kaiten, is scheduled to open in Japanese cinemas on August 28, 2026.
