映画ちいかわ 人魚の島のひみつ (Chiikawa: Ningyo no Shima no Himitsu), the feature film based on Nagano’s original manga, has announced a series of special screening formats: 4DX, a vocal cheer screening, and a cheer screening with automatically controlled penlight effects.

4DX Screenings

4DX screenings kick off on Saturday, September 5, 2026. The format will bring to life the combat action against the Siren, Usagi’s energetic rap sequence, and the wind and water spray felt throughout the island adventure.

“Nantoka Nare!!” Vocal Cheer Screening

The 「なんとかなれーッ!発声可能 応援上映」 vocal cheer event is set for Friday, September 11, 2026 at 7:00 PM, held simultaneously at 7 theaters across 5 prefectures. Audiences can cheer on the Chiikawa crew, call back to the Siren’s song, and — most importantly — shout Hachiware’s iconic 「なんとかなれーッ!!」 right along with the film.

Participating venues:

  • Hokkaido: TOHO Cinemas Susukino
  • Tokyo: TOHO Cinemas Hibiya, TOHO Cinemas Shinjuku, TOHO Cinemas Ikebukuro
  • Aichi: TOHO Cinemas Nagoya Sakae
  • Osaka: TOHO Cinemas Umeda
  • Fukuoka: TOHO Cinemas Tenjin

Auto-Controlled Penlight Cheer Screening

On Wednesday, September 23, 2026 (a national holiday) at 7:00 PM, the same 7 theaters will host a cheer screening featuring special penlight devices that automatically change color to match each character’s appearance and key moments — all while audiences cheer out loud.

“Until We Meet Again” Send-Off Screenings

A series of 「”また会う日まで”お見送り上映会」 send-off events has also been confirmed for September, where Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi appear on screen after the credits to bid the audience farewell. The schedule is as follows:

  • Sept. 2 — TOHO Cinemas Susukino (Hokkaido)
  • Sept. 3 — Sapporo Cinema Frontier (Hokkaido)
  • Sept. 8 — TOHO Cinemas LaLaport Kadoma (Osaka)
  • Sept. 9 — TOHO Cinemas Namba (Osaka)

About the Film

Chiikawa: Ningyo no Shima no Himitsu adapts the long-running “Siren Arc” from the Chiikawa manga. The story follows Chiikawa and friends on an island summer camp, only to be swept up in a plan to defeat a Siren that has been abducting the island’s inhabitants one by one. The film opened nationwide in Japan on July 24 and had already earned over ¥11 billion at the box office with 7.66 million admissions in its first 31 days through August 23.
