The official X (formerly Twitter) account for The Long Summer of August 31 (August 31 no Long Summer), the manga by Ikkado Ito, announced on Monday that the series will receive both a television anime adaptation by studio SHAFT and a live-action series adaptation. An ultra teaser visual for the anime was also unveiled alongside the announcement. Ito additionally drew a special illustration to celebrate the news.
Story
The manga follows high schoolers Suzuki Takaya and Takagi Kana, who find themselves trapped in an endlessly repeating August 31st — and are the only two people who retain their memories across each loop. The most likely culprit behind the time loop? Suzuki’s unfinished summer mission: finding a girlfriend and losing his virginity. It’s a hilarious yet heartfelt time-loop comedy.
Publication Details
Ito launched the manga in Kodansha‘s Morning magazine in 2023. Kodansha published the 13th compiled volume on August 21, while Seven Seas Entertainment released the sixth English-language volume on August 25. Seven Seas handles the physical English edition, and Kodansha’s K MANGA service distributes it digitally.
Author’s Previous Work
Ito previously created I’m Not Meat: Get Your Filthy Paws Off Me! (Boku wa Oniku janai), which ran in Shogakukan’s Monthly Spirits magazine from July 2020 and concluded with its third compiled volume in December 2021. Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the title under its Ghost Ship imprint and published the third and final English volume in May 2023.
