A special screening event celebrating the Toward the Terra franchise has been announced for Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Ikebukuro HUMAX Cinemas in Tokyo. The event will feature the 1980 anime film Toward the Terra (地球へ…) alongside a selection of episodes from the 2007 TV anime series Toward the Terra (地球へ… / Toward the Terra) — specifically episodes 4, 8, and 24.
A Celebration of the Collector’s Edition Release
The event is being held to commemorate the release of a special collector’s edition (愛蔵版) of the original manga, due out on September 30, 2026. Doors open at noon, with the program beginning at 1:00 PM and expected to conclude around 6:00 PM.
Talk Show Guests
A highlight of the event is a talk show featuring Takemiya Keiko, the original manga creator, and Hio Akira, who served as mecha designer and space background artist on the anime film. The discussion will be moderated by film producer and board member of the Anime Tokusatsu Archive Organization (アニメ特撮アーカイブ機構), Takahashi Nozomu.
About Toward the Terra
The 1980 anime film marked the first theatrical adaptation of Takemiya Keiko’s manga. The story follows Jomy Marcus Shin, a young member of a persecuted new humanity known as the Mu, who possesses extraordinary abilities. Despite leading the Mu in their struggle for survival, Jomy holds onto the hope of peaceful coexistence with ordinary humanity. The TV anime remake premiered in April 2007.
