A new website launched Saturday to announce that Wandance on Stage, a stage play adaptation of Coffee‘s manga Wandance, will run from March 19 to 28, 2027 at MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives Box1000 in Tokyo.
Cast and Staff
Taki of THE JET BOY BANGERZ, a group within the Exile Tribe collective, will star as the protagonist Kaboku. Imagine Itō is attached to both direct the production and write the script.
The production will hold auditions this fall to cast ensemble dancers for the show.
Story
Wandance follows Kaboku, a boy who has always drifted along with the expectations of those around him — family, school, and a mapped-out future — leaving him feeling hollow. One evening he stumbles upon Hikari Wanda, a member of the school’s hip-hop dance club, dancing alone in an empty concrete space. Instantly captivated, Kaboku decides to step out of his comfort zone, even though the club is almost entirely girls who are far more skilled than he is. The series has been compared to coming-of-age titles such as Blue Period and Your Lie in April.
Manga Background
Coffee launched the manga in Afternoon magazine in 2019, with simultaneous publication on Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket app. The 15th compiled volume was published in Japan in December 2025, while Kodansha USA Publishing is set to release the 14th English-language volume in November 2026.
Other Adaptations
- A television anime adaptation premiered in Japan in October 2025; Disney+ streamed the series as it aired.
- A live-action film adaptation is scheduled to open in Japan on November 27.
