The Black Clover anime’s second season now has an official premiere date: it will begin airing on TV Tokyo and its affiliated stations on October 3 at 11:00 p.m. JST. Viewers in Japan will also be able to stream the series on Anime Times, Lemino, U-NEXT, and Anime Hōdai.
Theme Songs
Weekly Shonen Jump revealed that the band ONE OR EIGHT will perform the ending theme, titled “Yellow Brick Road.” The opening theme, “Kienai Riyū” (The Reason that Won’t Disappear), is performed by WANIMA.
Staff & Studio
Ayataka Tanemura — who directed episodes 153–170 of the first Black Clover anime series as well as the feature film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King — returns to direct the second season. Studio Pierrot is once again handling animation production.
International Streaming & Theatrical Preview
Crunchyroll will give U.S. audiences an early look at the new season through its Crunchyroll Anime Nights theatrical program on September 21, ahead of the TV premiere. The series will then stream on Crunchyroll simultaneously with its Japanese broadcast.
Series Background
The first Black Clover anime debuted in Japan in October 2017, originally slated for 51 episodes. It was renewed for additional seasons beginning with episode 52 in October 2018 and again in October 2019, ultimately concluding with its 170th episode in March 2021. In the U.S., Crunchyroll streamed the series with English subtitles while Funimation handled the English dub; the show also aired on Adult Swim’s Toonami block starting in December 2017.
The anime film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King (Japanese title: Black Clover: Mahōtei no Ken) opened in Japanese theaters and launched globally on Netflix in June 2023.
About the Manga
Yūki Tabata launched the Black Clover manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2015. The series moved to the quarterly Jump Giga magazine in 2023. Viz Media publishes the manga in both digital and print formats in North America, and Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service offers free digital access worldwide.
