โปสเตอร์ภาพยนตร์ 劇場版 魔法少女まどか☆マギカ〈ワルプルギスの廻天〉

Mahou Shoujo Madoka☆Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten, the long-awaited theatrical sequel to the beloved magical-girl franchise, has surpassed 1 million admissions and ¥1.838 billion (approx. US$12.5 million) in box-office revenue over its first 17 days in Japanese cinemas, from August 28 through September 13, 2026.

Record-Breaking Run

The film debuted at No. 1 in both admissions and revenue during its opening weekend. Within just four days it had already cleared the ¥1 billion mark, and by day ten it had drawn 900,000 viewers and earned over ¥1.5 billion. The momentum carried it past the coveted one-million-admission milestone — a remarkable achievement coming 13 years after the previous entry, Rebellion (2013). Throughout its theatrical run, the production has staged greeting events, nationwide live viewings, and mascot appearances to keep fan enthusiasm high.

Spoiler Ban Lifted — New Character Revealed

On September 12, the official spoiler embargo was lifted on social media, triggering a wave of fan reactions and analysis. Details about the film’s new character — “The Nameless Upperclassman / Wass” — were released simultaneously, and third-week attendance gifts featuring the new character began distribution the same day. A promotional video first unveiled at the Aniplex One Focus (AOF) streaming event crossed 1 million YouTube views in under 24 hours, fuelling further discussion across social platforms.

Dolby Cinema Screenings from September 18

Starting September 18, 2026, Walpurgis no Kaiten will screen in Dolby Cinema format, offering audiences an even more immersive experience through Dolby’s signature high-contrast visuals and object-based audio. Even viewers who have already seen the film will find plenty of reason to return to theatres.

Synopsis & Production Details

A direct continuation of [New] Rebellion‘s shocking finale, the film follows Akemi Homura — now a demon born of her devotion to Madoka — as the magical girls reassemble in a newly constructed world and the gears of the Madoka universe begin to turn once more.
