นน ขึ้นเวทีพิธีเปิดงาน MAPPA EXPO 15th Anniversary ที่โตเกียว

The MAPPA EXPO 15th Anniversary exhibition officially opened on September 16 at YURAKUCHO MUSEUM in Tokyo. The day before, on September 15, an opening ceremony was held, with actress Non (のん) — who voiced Hojo Suzu in the 2016 animated film この世界の片隅に (In This Corner of the World) — taking the stage as a special guest.

The Film That Started It All

Directed by Katabuchi Sunao, In This Corner of the World is widely regarded as the catalyst for MAPPA’s founding. Non herself began working under the name “Non” in July 2016 — the same year the film was released. Speaking with evident passion, she reflected on what the role meant to her:

“For ‘Non,’ it was a simultaneous new beginning. I was certain it would become an irreplaceable, special work as I set out on a new path as an actress — I felt it was almost like a mission in my life that I absolutely had to do.”

She also expressed deep gratitude toward director Katabuchi, describing him as someone who approaches his work with sincerity and engages thoroughly with his cast. Non noted that voice acting required a completely different mindset from the live-action work she had done before, calling the experience an invaluable lesson that has continued to shape her craft ever since.

A Fan of MAPPA’s Wider Catalog

Beyond her own involvement, Non is an avid viewer of MAPPA’s other titles, including Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuri!!! on ICE, and Jigokuraku (Hell’s Paradise). When asked which MAPPA world she would most want to step into, she smiled and said she would love to see the vivid flower colors of Jigokuraku with her own eyes.

On the appeal of MAPPA’s work in general, Non was enthusiastic: “You can completely immerse yourself in the world of each story — and everything just feels so stylish. The direction, the camerawork — it gives me chills!” She also praised the exhibition’s curation, saying the scenes chosen for display were “wonderfully tasteful and well-chosen.”

Non admitted that her image of MAPPA had long been shaped by In This Corner of the World, so she was genuinely surprised — and thrilled — to discover just how many cool, action-packed, and stylish titles the studio has produced. “Every time a new work comes out, I get excited all over again,” she said.
