The production team behind the TV anime Kusuriya no Hitorigoto (The Apothecary Diaries) Season 3 has unveiled all 11 character posters for the upcoming season at once, featuring both beloved returning characters and a brand-new face.
Characters Featured in the Posters
The poster lineup includes series staples Maomao, Jinshi, Gaoshun, and the three beauties of the Rokushoukan. Characters set to receive greater focus in Season 3 — Zhao Yu, Ma Shan, Luo Ban, and Lu Sun — also appear. The standout addition is Bai Niangniang, a new character making her debut in Season 3. Each poster pairs its character’s visual with a line of dialogue from the new season, offering fans a taste of the story ahead.
A Franchise at the Top of Its Game
Kusuriya no Hitorigoto has surpassed 57 million copies sold worldwide. The story follows a young poison-taster who solves a string of mysterious incidents inside the imperial court. Season 2, which began airing in January 2025, consistently ranked at the top of streaming platforms and various anime charts, cementing the series as one of the defining anime titles of 2025.
Pre-Season Events
Ahead of Season 3’s premiere, cast audio commentaries recorded as Blu-ray bonuses for Seasons 1 and 2 were made available for a limited time until 11:59 p.m. on September 27. ABEMA also held a free marathon stream of both seasons. On September 27, a special advance screening with a stage greeting took place at TOHO Cinemas Roppongi, with voice actors Aoi Yuki (Maomao), Takehito Otsuka (Jinshi), Ryumaru Tachibana (Ma Shan), and Natsumi Fujiwara (Zhao Yu) in attendance. A nationwide live viewing was held simultaneously at theaters across Japan.
Film and Season 3 Broadcast Details
The franchise’s first theatrical film, Gekijouban Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Bouki no Hihou (The Apothecary Diaries: The Lost Queen’s Treasure), is scheduled for release on December 11, 2026. The film is directed by Norihiro Naganuma, written by Yuko Kakihara, and features character design by Yukiko Nakatani. The cast includes Aoi Yuki, Takehito Otsuka, and Mariya Ise. It is produced by TOHO animation STUDIO and distributed by Toho.
Season 3 of the TV anime premieres on October 2, 2026, airing every Friday at 11:00 p.m. on 30 Nippon TV-affiliated stations under the «FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT» block. Streaming on various platforms will follow after broadcast. The season is split into two cours: the first in October 2026 and the second in April 2027.
