The television anime adaptation of Amara‘s light novel series Neko to Ryū (The Cat and the Dragon) concluded its first season on Saturday with an announcement that a second season is in the works for 2027. Crunchyroll has since confirmed it will stream the upcoming season.
To mark the occasion, author Amara and the anime’s co-character designers Chiaki Kurakazu and Rie Nishino each shared a celebratory illustration.

Staff
Jin-Koo Oh (Tonbo!) directed the first season at OLM. Mitsutaka Hirota (Edens Zero) wrote the series scripts, while Rie Nishino and Chiaki Kurakazu handled character design. Takahiro Obata (The Promised Neverland) composed the music, and Noriyoshi Konuma (The Dangers in My Heart) served as sound director.
Theme Songs
The first season’s opening theme, “Nekohi” (Cat Day), was performed by suis of the band yorushika. The ending theme, “Tadaima no Basho” (A Place to Call Home), was performed by vocalist lia‘s band shallm.
Broadcast
The first season premiered early on d Anime Store and ABEMA on June 27 at 9:30 p.m. JST, a week ahead of its television debut on Tokyo MX on July 4 at 9:00 p.m. JST. It also aired on BS NTV, Yomiuri TV, Nagasaki Culture Broadcasting, and AT-X.
Source Material
Amara originally published the story as a web novel on Shōsetsuka ni Narō beginning in September 2013. Takarajimasha released the first light novel volume — illustrated by Mai Ōkuma — in April 2016. The ninth volume arrived in November 2025, with the series now boasting over 1.4 million copies in circulation.
Izumi Sasaki‘s manga adaptation launched on the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! website in September 2017 and expanded to Manga Box in April 2020. The 13th compiled volume shipped on July 24.
