The romantic comedy manga Kaku Naru Ue wa (描くなるうえは), currently serialized in Young Animal and Young Animal Web, has been officially confirmed for a TV anime adaptation. The series is scheduled to begin airing in January 2027, with the announcement accompanied by the release of the first promotional video (PV), character visuals, and additional main staff information.
Story
Uehara-kun is a high school student who loves 2D media and dreams of becoming a manga artist. When he submits his rom-com manuscript to a publisher, it gets rejected outright for lacking “realistic romance.” Just as he is about to give up on his dream, his classmate — a flashy gyaru named Miyamoto Niina — stumbles upon his manuscript and reveals that she, too, secretly dreams of becoming a manga artist.
What follows is a secret “fake relationship” started for the sake of manga — a bittersweet, passionate youth story about two people who were never supposed to cross paths. As Niina herself puts it: “This is total destiny — won’t you go out with me!?”

- Uehara Yuuki (CV: Murase Ayumu) — An introverted, sometimes negative high schooler who is passionate about 2D and aspires to draw manga. When it comes to the things he loves, his dedication is unmatched.
- Miyamoto Niina (CV: Suzushiro Sayumi) — A bright, energetic gyaru known to everyone as “Nina.” Like Yuuki, she harbors a secret dream of becoming a manga artist, and it is she who proposes their fake-dating arrangement to fuel their creative work.

Source Manga
The original manga is written by Takahata Yumi (story) and illustrated by Kamabu Yuji (art), published by Hakusensha under the Young Animal Comics label. Seven volumes are currently available, with Volume 8 due out on September 29.
“Nina Day” Monthly Campaign
The production team has designated the 27th of every month as “Nina Day,” with special giveaway campaigns planned each month. On Sunday, September 27, an original clear file featuring newly drawn artwork of Niina — distributed at Kyomaf 2026 — will be given away. An official TikTok account for the anime has also launched, where fans can follow for the latest updates.
