About the Manga

Kariya and Hanasaki originally launched Oishinbo in 1983. Shogakukan published the 111th volume in December 2014, after which the manga went on an indefinite hiatus. The story centers on a fierce culinary rivalry between the Tōzai Shimbun newspaper’s “Ultimate Menu” project and gourmet authority Yūzan Kaibara‘s “Supreme Menu.”

A previous television anime adaptation, also produced by Shinei Animation, aired for 136 episodes from 1988 to 1992, along with two additional specials. The franchise has also inspired multiple live-action television series and a live-action film.

Viz Media has published five volumes of Oishinbo digitally via VizManga.com and the Viz Manga App, as well as in print.
