Anime studio White Fox announced on Friday that it is producing a television anime adaptation of Daken‘s light novel series Monster no Niku wo Kutteitara Ōi ni Tsuita Ken (How I Became King by Eating Monsters). The series is scheduled to debut in 2027.
To mark the announcement, original novel illustrator Shiba and manga artist Karin Suzuragi each drew celebratory illustrations.
Story
Mars, the first prince of the kingdom of Farune, is only twelve years old but already lives under the constant threat of assassination. To escape the poison hidden in nearly every meal served to him at the castle, he sneaks out into a nearby monster-infested forest and hunts for his own food. One night, while searching for monster meat to eat, a red-haired woman carrying a greatsword appears before him and declares, “You have promise. Become my apprentice.”
Through her, Mars stumbles upon a life-changing secret: eating monsters makes you stronger. Armed with her training and his newfound power, he begins to fend off the endless assassination attempts against him — but that is only the beginning of a continent-spanning web of wars and political intrigue with Mars at the center.
