The landmark isekai fantasy manga 「彼方から」(Kanata kara) is receiving its long-awaited full TV anime adaptation to mark the series’ 35th anniversary, with original creator Hikawa Kyoko supervising the scripts. The anime is set to begin broadcasting in October 2026 on TOKYO MX, ABC Television, WOWOW, and other channels.
Genjibu Tapped for Opening Theme
Dance-vocal idol group 「原因は自分にある。」, known by their nickname Genjibu (ゲンジブ), will perform the anime’s opening theme. The seven-member group consists of Okura Sorato, Koizumi Kosaki, Sakuragi Masaya, Nagano Ryodai, Muto Jun, Mokushiro Kazuto, and Yoshizawa Kanato. They are also members of the artist collective EBiDAN, which includes acts such as Chotokkyu and M!LK.
The group has been riding a wave of momentum: their single 「Yes! 東京」, released in August, achieved first-week million-copy sales, and they performed at the massive 「EBiDAN THE LIVE 2026 15th Anniversary」 event at Tokyo’s National Yoyogi Stadium First Gymnasium, drawing a crowd of 50,000.
Interview: Koizumi Kosaki & Yoshizawa Kanato
To celebrate the anime’s broadcast and the release of the opening theme 「逃光行」(Tōkōkō), two members of Genjibu — Koizumi Kosaki and Yoshizawa Kanato — sat down to discuss the song and their experience recording it.
First Impressions of the Theme Song
Koizumi said he was genuinely happy to be involved with a work beloved across generations, and that 「逃光行」 blends Genjibu’s signature style with a nostalgic sonic quality that feels like a natural fit for the series.
Yoshizawa expressed deep joy at being entrusted with the opening theme, saying he wants to deliver the song with everything he has so it can truly become part of the story. He described the track as having a refreshing quality alongside strong, substantive lyrics — a song that expresses strength hidden within gentleness.
Favourite Lyrics and Vocal Parts
Koizumi highlighted the line 「君と繋ぐエピファニー カオスの狭間を駆け抜けて」, saying it captures the journey of the two protagonists in 「彼方から」 perfectly. He was also pleased to sing the opening of the chorus, the part that leaves the strongest impression on listeners.
Yoshizawa named the 2A section as his favourite. He finds the melody addictively catchy and enjoys the way the lyrics convey an emotional shift, which he gets to express through his own voice.
Recording Sessions and Direction
Koizumi handled the final section of the song. He initially held out the last note, but was advised to “place” the note rather than sustain it — an unusual way to close a track. The result, he noted, lets the piano sound ring out immediately afterwards, making the timing and sonic atmosphere feel perfectly aligned.
Yoshizawa focused on keeping his voice gentle without letting it become weak, aiming to carry both the song’s softness and the underlying strength in a single vocal performance.
