October 8th is observed in Japan as “Eternity Day” (永遠の日), a date chosen because the numbers 10 and 8 can be read as to and wa — together forming towa, the Japanese word for “eternity.”
To mark the occasion, anime news outlet Anime! Anime! ran a reader poll asking: “Which character do you think of first when you hear ‘time leap’?” The survey ran from 30 September to 4 October and collected 161 responses. The gender split was roughly even. By age, approximately 30% of respondents were 19 or younger, around 25% were in their 20s, and about 20% were in their 30s.

2nd place was shared by two fan favourites: Okabe Rintaro from Steins;Gate and Hanagaki Takemichi from Tokyo Revengers — both celebrated for their desperate, memory-intact journeys back through time to change the future.
1st place went to a character whose story is currently playing in cinemas across Japan at the time of the poll — a testament to the buzz surrounding that theatrical release.
Beyond the top two positions, the full ranking extended to ten entries, covering a wide range of time-bending heroes and heroines from across anime history — from those who relive the same loop endlessly to those whose abilities trigger under specific conditions.
