The 13th and final compiled volume of Oreko Tachibana‘s manga Firefly Wedding (Hotaru no Yomeiri), released on Monday, carried an announcement that Tachibana will launch a new manga on Shogakukan’s Manga ONE app this coming winter.
New Manga: Two Rival Leaders Who Must Never Fall in Love
Details are slim, but the preview teases a story centered on two powerful leaders who are at odds with each other: the prince of a country of men and the chief of a country of women. The central rule — that the two must never fall in love — sets the stage for what promises to be a compelling romantic conflict.
Firefly Wedding: The Completed Series
Tachibana originally launched Firefly Wedding on the Manga ONE app in January 2023, concluding the main series on February 2. She also drew seven spinoff chapters released monthly from February 2 through August 3. The first two spinoff chapters were titled “Koi to Doku,” while the final five were titled “Hitokiri to Yōdō.” All spinoff chapters were compiled into a dedicated volume released simultaneously with the main series’ 13th volume on Monday.
Viz Media publishes the manga in English; the eighth English volume went on sale on October 13. The story follows Satoko, a beautiful noblewoman’s daughter of marriageable age who is secretly gravely ill. Before she can arrange a marriage to prove her worth to her family, she becomes the target of a mysterious assassin named Shinpei. In a desperate bid to survive, she proposes marriage to him — only to discover that Shinpei takes “until death do us part” very, very seriously.
Anime and Live-Action Adaptations
An ongoing television anime adaptation of Firefly Wedding premiered on October 9, airing on Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block every Friday at 11:30 p.m. Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs in Japan. A separate live-action television adaptation is also in the works and is slated to debut in 2027.
