Story & Highlights
Based on the manga by Tachibana Oreko — which has surpassed 5 million copies in circulation — Hotaru no Yomeiri is set during the Meiji era as Western civilization reshapes Japan. Kirigaya Satoko, a frail earl’s daughter given little time to live, dreams of a prestigious marriage to make her father proud. One night she is abducted, and in a desperate bid to survive she proposes “marriage” to the assassin who rescues her — Goto Shinpei, a young killer from Tenmeijima Island. Convinced she is his destined partner, Shinpei’s obsessive devotion sets off a story of forbidden, all-consuming love.
