A teaser trailer unveiled on Sunday confirmed that Aki Hamaji‘s four-panel manga Bocchi the Rock! is getting an anime film adaptation. Titled Eiga Bocchi the Rock! Hoshi no Ashiato (Bocchi the Rock! the Movie: Footprints of the Stars), the film is slated to open in 2027.
The film adapts “Hoshi ni Tamukeru Ai no Hana,” a special story found at the end of the fifth manga volume. The story serves as a prologue centering on Seika Ichiji, the older sister of main character Nijika Ichiji.

About the Series
Bocchi the Rock! follows Hitori Goto, a painfully shy girl who dreams of making friends but is crippled by social anxiety. She spends all of middle school teaching herself guitar in secret, earning modest anonymous fame on YouTube, hoping someone will notice her. When Nijika Ijichi spots her sulking in a playground and asks her to fill in for a missing guitarist at her band’s first live show, Hitori’s quiet wish suddenly becomes a terrifying reality.
The TV anime adaptation premiered in October 2022. In February 2025, a concert event announced that a second season is in the works, with Yūsuke Yamamoto (assistant director and episode director on the original series) stepping up as director in place of Keiichirō Saitō, and Keito Oda joining Kerorira as character designer.
The first compilation film, Bocchi the Rock! Re:, opened in Japan on June 7, 2024, selling 140,000 tickets and earning approximately 218,470,888 yen (about US$1.38 million) in its opening three days. The second compilation film, Bocchi the Rock! Re:Re:, followed on August 9, 2024.
Manga
Hamaji launched the Bocchi the Rock! manga in Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara Max magazine in December 2017, and the series remains ongoing. Houbunsha released the eighth compiled volume on November 27, while Yen Press shipped the seventh English-language volume on November 11.
